Our house stands immediately opposite the garden of the Academy of Arts on Vasilievsky Island. In summer when you look out of our windows, you will see a dense wall of greenery; in winter, a delicate tracery of branches, Classical columns, and open space.
Walk 150 metres from our front door and you will come to the embankment of the main river with its enigmatic sphinxes and stunning views over the city's main landmarks (the Winter Palace, St Isaac's, the statue of the Bronze Horseman).
The Hermitage, the top end of Nevsky prospekt, and the Mariinsky Theatre are 15 minutes away by foot and 5 minutes by public transport.
