If your interest has been piqued by this website, then there is a good chance that you will enjoy staying at The Old Church Courtyard (in the thick of Dostoevsky's Petersburg, a few minutes' walk from Nevsky Prospekt) or The Academy Garden (in a more spacious location, immediately behind the Academy of Arts, 150 metres from the bank of the main river).
Both places are imbued with the atmosphere of the city. They are not hotels, but sensitively converted apartments in apartment blocks that are typical for the centre of St Petersburg. The house entrances and staircases are a bit scruffy, and our service is occasionally less than 100% efficient, but we think we make up for this in other things ‒ the charm of our rooms and our willingness to help, for instance.
Our guesthouses are a well-balanced mixture of private and public space. The rooms ‒ all different ‒ are beautifully proportioned. Most are wonderfully light. Several must be some of the most spacious accommodation available in St Petersburg. And all have their own en-suite bathrooms.
We have unlimited free tea and coffee, free Wi-Fi, and libraries of books for you to savour.
Anything else? Yes: we are humane, tolerant, and utterly honest. We will do our level best to help you get the most out of the city. And we offer reductions on our already fairly reasonable prices to academics, architects, artists, and anyone with a good case to argue (especially during the winter months).
To be frank, I don't think you will find better or more beautiful bases from which to set out to discover
